Learning Spanish is almost a no brainer, especially if you live in the United States. Although I have not put a lot of emphasis on Spanish personally, I am very familiar with the long lists of benefits that come along with fluency in the language. Spanish is one of the 21 languages that I will be speaking during my Million Subscribers Linguistic Livestream in December.
According to The Cervantes Institute, there are 470 million native Spanish speakers in the world (source), which is more than the 360 million native English speakers. It is spoken in 20 different countries as the official language, including one country in Africa, called Equatorial Guinea. This means that if you are looking to move to or do business in Africa, you will now be able to communicate with about 1.3 million people on the continent simply by learning español.
Another benefit to learning Spanish is that it is similar to English, so as a native English speaker, it will be easier to learn. Knowing Spanish will also make understanding and learning other romance languages such as French, Portuguese, and Italian much easier.
This information about Spanish would not be complete without mentioning the fact that according to CNN and The U.S. Census Bureau, by the year 2050, the number of Spanish speakers in the U.S. is expected to reach 132 million people, making the United States officially become the country with the highest Spanish speaking population in the world (source). Due to this growth in the Spanish speaking population, knowledge of Spanish will also open up the opportunity to access many Spanish-English bilingual job postings that you would not have been able to apply to otherwise.
